Frequently Asked Questions

When I open Outlook Express, I get a message that my username or password is wrong and a window pops up showing my username and the little *** for my password. What's wrong?

  • On the line that shows your username, add "@tnh.net" after it. Thus, it will be your email address now. Then click on OKAY and you will be good to go. You only have to do this one time... unless you made a typing error.

After my computer restarts, nothing happens. What do I do?

  • Click on the TNH Internet shortcut and your modem should dial. Your computer may require you to "double-click". If this does not work, please call technical support.

I clicked on the TNH Internet shortcut and I heard my modem make a lot of noise. Then a little window popped up saying I was connected to TNH but it went away and then I was just looking at my usual Windows desktop. No Internet pages or email came up on my screen. What should I do?

  • If you look in the lower right corner of your computer screen (near the little icon for your speakers), you should see a pair of small computers. This shows that you are connected to TNH Internet. Just double-click the Internet Explorer icon, located on your Desktop. It looks like a lower-case letter 'e' and will bring up our Home Page.

Where is your Home Page? All I get is a page that says "TNH Internet Service".

  • The term "Home Page" refers to the opening page of any website. It's also called the "start page"

When I try to go to any web site, it says that the server does not have a DNS entry.

  • If this is the first time you have installed the TNH software and tried to connect and if your computer is running WindowsXP, you need to close Windows and shut down your computer. Restart your computer and everything should work properly. This is normal with XP and nothing to be alarmed about.
  • If this is NOT your first time connecting to TNH, you most likely are not online or the connection did not complete properly. The best way to fix this is to close down all open programs and restart your machine. Then use your TNH dial-up shortcut .
  • If neither of the above fixes your problem, call Customer Support.

I have a message that says information being sent may not be secure.

  • You are sending information which alerts you to the fact that the security of your data may be compromised. If you are sending something along the lines of your credit card number, check to be sure that the web page is protecting this data. A secure page usually shows a small padlock in the bottom right corner. Most of the time, you can ignore this message unless you are sending your credit card information.

What is a cookie and what do I do with it?

  • Cookies are small text files that tell your computer whether you have been to this site before, and what preferences you have. It is generally safe to download them.

What is meant by URL?

URL is defined as Uniform Resource Locator. In other words, the address for this page.

What is e-mail?

  • "E-mail" or "electronic mail" sends messages through the Internet.

How does e-mail travel?

  • When your message is sent, it goes to the "post office" for e-mail (It's uploaded onto a mail server - in this case, mail.tnh.net). Once there, it travels to the intended destination using the address you specified. The '@' character specifies the mail server. The portion of the address before the '@' character identifies the recipient. It is then put into their mailbox to await them downloading it onto their computer.

How can I send files via e-mail?

  • Most programs have a feature called 'Insert' or 'Attachments'. The mail is then sent with the attached files in the same manner that regular e-mail travels.
